The Story of Baan Praya ( under renovation until Dec 2026 )

Baan Praya began with a simple idea: to preserve a piece of traditional Thailand before it disappears.

When I first discovered this 20-year-old wooden house in Plai Praya, I wasn’t searching for another project. Yet something about it felt special. The aged timber, traditional craftsmanship, and quiet surroundings reminded me of the Thailand I grew up knowing—where homes were built to last, neighbours knew each other by name, and life moved at a gentler pace.

Located in northern Krabi, Plai Praya is often overlooked by travellers heading straight to the beaches. But that is precisely what makes it charming. Surrounded by fruit orchards, rubber plantations, limestone mountains, and local villages, it offers an authentic glimpse into everyday southern Thai life.

Here, mornings begin with local coffee shops and fresh market produce. Days can be spent exploring hidden countryside roads, visiting temples, discovering waterfalls, or taking scenic drives through the region’s lush landscapes. Plai Praya is also conveniently located between Krabi, Phang Nga, and Surat Thani, making it an ideal base for travellers seeking a slower and more authentic side of Southern Thailand.

Rather than demolishing and rebuilding, I chose to restore. My vision for Baan Praya is to honour the character of the original house while thoughtfully introducing modern comforts for today’s traveller.

Inspired by Thai Oriental design, the renovation blends traditional Thai architecture with warm timber interiors, handcrafted details, tropical gardens, soft lighting, and elegant communal spaces. Every decision is guided by a desire to preserve the soul of the home while creating a timeless retreat for future generations.

Baan Praya is not intended to be just a place to sleep. It is being created as a place to slow down, reconnect with nature, appreciate Thai craftsmanship, and experience a side of Thailand that many visitors never get to see.

As renovation continues throughout 2026, every beam, every garden corner, and every design detail is being carefully considered to create something both beautiful and meaningful.
